The Red Cat |
I live across the street from The Red Cat and I've actually been here a couple of times already, but never quite put up a post about it, because...well, there just wasn't much to say. I keep hoping to have a breakthrough moment where I see why place is so raved about, like
my experience with Cookshop. Don't get me wrong, it's a pleasant restaurant with nice service and good food, but for me that's about it. All of the food is well prepared, but nothing has ever really excited me.
On this, my third visit, I ordered the Beet & Frisee Salad with Toasted Garlic, Calabrese, and Pickled Onion. Again, good, pleasant to eat, a nice lunch experience.

Things picked up a bit for dessert. We got an order of the Apple Beignets and an order of Caramel Banana Bread Pudding for the table. The beignets were warm and gooey, drizzled with caramel and served with vanilla ice cream. Quite good, although I will say that restaurants using the term "beignets" to try to fancy up donuts, is one of my pet peeves. Beignets are not just the french word for donuts, they are something else. Moving on to the Banana Bread Pudding with Peanut Butter & Jelly Ice Cream. It was good, but it should have been amazing. I mean, each of those components alone should be a mouth-party- put together, that should be genius.

So, there you have it. Yet another average experience at The Red Cat.
