Smorgasburg

Porchetta

We planned on hitting up Smorgasburg a few weeks ago as part of our glorious NYC Staycation, but after brunch at Pies N Thighs we were full for the whole day. Today we wouldn't make the same mistake twice, so headed off to Williamsburg with empty stomachs.

We planned on starting our day with doughnuts from Dough, but they were a no show. OK, straight to luncheon foods it is. We couldn't help but notice this booth as soon as we walked in with its obviously fresh-baked, crusty rolls and tempting slab of pork.

"What is porchetta?" we naively asked the fellas at the booth. "Heaven" they replied. So we got one- and they were right. The day was off to a great start

Then this little number caught our eye next. The only problem was that we couldn't decide which one to get. We let fate decide and used a coin-flipping iPhone app (yeah, that's right). The Sweet Onion Schnitz won out and won us over.

By this time we were pretty full, but not too full to split one little Spinach Empanada:

Aaaaand we were done...for now. We went off to one of Willamsburg many coffee shops and spent a few hours getting some work done and rebuilding our appetite. Then, back we went!

Watermelon, Ricotta & Eggplant Sandwich
I started out with the Watermelon, Ricotta, & Eggplant Sandwich from I 8 NY because I had read that it was not to be missed. This is definitely a must get, such a delicious and unique final taste of summer! They also had Grilled Corn with Smoked Peach Butter which looked incredible, but I had to resist, because I wanted to save room for:

Bamberg Schnitz

The BAMberg Schnitz! And yes, it was every bit as good as the Sweet Onion Schnitz, so don't ask us to pick a favorite.

Smorgasburg continues every Saturday until Thanksgiving- do yourself a favor and don't miss it!
