Today we visit our neighbor
Rub BBQ on 23rd St near 8th Ave to see what Chelsea has to offer in terms of barbecue. One of the first things I notice is their 'Sold Out' board (just to the right of the dude with the hoodie in the photo). I read on the back of the menu that they only make a certain amount of each of their dishes each day and that when they are gone, they're gone until they make the next batch the next day. I respect that.
We started with the wings after reading some serious praise about them over on Serious Eats. We determined that they were the perfect blend of sweet and spicy and the chicken was super moist. These are definitely some excellent wings in a city which seems to have an odd lack of good wing selection. The only drawback? BBQ is the only variety, so a hot wing lover like myself is still left with a longing.

We split an order of the St. Louis Style Ribs with a side of potato salad and baked beans. The baked beans were a big fail for us as they seemed to be stewed in their BBQ sauce. The potato salad was good, but I'm not sure how redeeming that is considering I can't think of the last time I've had potato salad I didn't like.

The ribs were good. The meat was tender and fell off the bone, but personally I could've used some more oomph in the rub itself and I wasn't a huge fan of their BBQ sauces so they didn't get an assist there. The jury is still out for me as to whether the convenience of them being so close by (and delivering) will make me choose them the next time I have a hankering for ribs as opposed to going out to Hill Country.
